What to Do if Poisoned

If someone has been exposed to a poison, follow these steps to get help quickly and safely.

Swallowed Poison, Poison in the Eye, Poison on the Skin, or Inhaled Poison

  • Do NOT panic
  • Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 for immediate instructions

When to Call 911 First

  • If the person is unconscious
  • If the person is having a seizure
  • If the person is not breathing
  • If the person has chest pain

If any of these symptoms are present, call 911 immediately.
