What We Do

The Minnesota Regional Poison Center provides the following services for the citizens of Minnesota:

Exposure Management

Nationally Certified Specialists in Poison Information (CSPIs) provide poison exposure assessment and management guidance to the general public and healthcare professionals across the state. This service is available through a national toll-free telephone number accessible by both voice and TTY, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Public and Professional Education Services

Various programs are available to promote awareness and prevention of both unintentional and intentional exposures and to improve patient management. These programs range from children’s safety camp participation for the public to lectures and training for healthcare professionals.

Poison Prevention Materials Distribution

Poison prevention brochures, telephone stickers, magnets, and other printed materials in multiple languages are provided to the public by mail or online. These resources help prevent exposures to hazardous substances, promote awareness of poison prevention, and increase utilization of Poison Center services.

Toxicosurveillance Service

The Minnesota Regional Poison Center participates in the Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner’s Terrorism and Health Task Force. In collaboration with the Minnesota Department of Health and America’s Poison Centers, the Poison Center provides active surveillance to detect infectious disease outbreaks and chemical events.
