What is APC?

America’s Poison Centers (APC) is a nonprofit, nationwide organization founded in 1958 that represents U.S. poison centers and supports the prevention and treatment of poisoning.

Your Poison Center is a member of APC.

The nation’s 53 poison centers, along with other poison-related organizations, are members of APC. APC’s mission is to advance poison centers in their public health role.

APC Support

  • Represents U.S. poison control centers
  • Partners with other organizations and federal agencies to promote poison center services
  • Provides accreditation of U.S. poison control centers
  • Provides continuing education for poison center staff
  • Certifies poison center personnel
  • Owns and maintains the National Poison Data System (NPDS)
  • Provides toxicosurveillance in collaboration with federal agencies, annual poison statistics reports, and custom reports from NPDS data
  • Supports poison center educational outreach efforts
  • Provides media, national organizations, and federal agencies access to a network of toxicology experts
  • Co-hosts the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology, a leading international toxicology conference
